Lifetime alcoholism (or alcohol use disorder) was assessed in adult Lifelines participants using the 11 diagnostic criteria stated in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM–5) (section: mental health).
Note that Lifelines also assessed alcohol use in general (i.e. not in the context of alcoholism).
