Myalgic encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) Questionnaire (MCFQ)

The ME/CFS questionnaire is an additional questionnaire among adult Lifelines participants. The digital questionnaire was developed at the initiative of researchers from the University Medical Center Groningen. The study aims to identify the prevalence of ME/CFS in the general population, to subsequently allow further research to unravel the aetiology of the disease.

The collected MCFQ data is currently under embargo. Please contact the Lifelines data managers at data@lifelines.nl for more information.

Protocol & response

Between December 6th 2023 and January 12th 2024, a digital questionnaire was sent out to ~113 500 adult Lifelines participants. Approximately Approximately ~38 000 participants (34%) responded.

Contents questionnaire

The MCFQ questionnaire contains the following instrument:

  • DePaul Symptom Questionnaire 2 (DSQ-2): developed to assess the symptomatology and case definition fulfillment of individuals with myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).
